Mechanical Designer

Description

  • Permanent position for a Mechanical Designer producing and maintaining detailed technical drawings and assembly documentation for large-scale industrial power equipment using 2D and 3D CAD.
  • Develop detailed ducting drawings specifying dimensions, tolerances, and weld callouts.
  • Lay out general piping arrangements with accompanying pipe support detail drawings.
  • Translate project specifications and conceptual sketches into finished production drawings.
  • Verify that drawings comply with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Prepare bills of material for completed drawings.
  • Review shop fabrication and erection drawings submitted by steel, duct, and equipment fabricators.
  • Evaluate construction feasibility and propose design revisions that improve fabrication.
  • Travel occasionally (~10%) to sites and vendors to support drawings and inspect fabricated parts against specifications.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on design and drafting experience in structural steel, vessels, ducting, and piping for the power, heavy industrial, or petrochem sector.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD along with 3D solid modeling software (Inventor, MicroStation), with the ability to produce 3D models.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including OSHA, AISC, and ASME.
  • Familiarity with welding as applied to structural steel and pressure vessels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-driven, analytical problem solver able to manage multiple concurrent assignments without sacrificing quality.
