Permanent position for a Mechanical Designer producing and maintaining detailed technical drawings and assembly documentation for large-scale industrial power equipment using 2D and 3D CAD.
Develop detailed ducting drawings specifying dimensions, tolerances, and weld callouts.
Lay out general piping arrangements with accompanying pipe support detail drawings.
Translate project specifications and conceptual sketches into finished production drawings.
Verify that drawings comply with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry standards.
Prepare bills of material for completed drawings.
Review shop fabrication and erection drawings submitted by steel, duct, and equipment fabricators.
Evaluate construction feasibility and propose design revisions that improve fabrication.
Travel occasionally (~10%) to sites and vendors to support drawings and inspect fabricated parts against specifications.
Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on design and drafting experience in structural steel, vessels, ducting, and piping for the power, heavy industrial, or petrochem sector.
Proficiency in AutoCAD along with 3D solid modeling software (Inventor, MicroStation), with the ability to produce 3D models.
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including OSHA, AISC, and ASME.
Familiarity with welding as applied to structural steel and pressure vessels.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-driven, analytical problem solver able to manage multiple concurrent assignments without sacrificing quality.
